COMPLETED: School Magazine Front Cover and Contents Page Task

This is the finished product, the final school magazine front cover, I am very proud of it as I learnt so much from just creating this cover, in photoshop and how valuable your research is.
As you have seen from my previous Blog, it was third time lucky before I was happy with what I had created. I felt before like the finish wasn't professional or up to the standard of quality I was after, so I went back to my research and re-created a finished cover that I believe was consistent with the research and looked a lot more professional.

The contents page is also based off of the research, the 'school related' props help to give a friendly feel. I have included multiple images as well which helps to make it more interesting to look at.

Overall I am proud of the front cover as it took me a longer time and I learnt a lot from creating it.
I feel as if both pages are effective in their own way and help to intrigue the reader.

Thank-You for Reading,
Jess.

Different Attempts at the Front Cover of the School Magazine:

This my first attempt at the School Magazine Front Cover.
This is my second attempt at a School Magazine Front Cover.
This is my third and final attempt at the School Magazine Front Cover, I am very happy with it and believe that it has improved enough to be the final product, as it compliments my research and has an overall professional finish.

RESEARCH: Analysing other School Prospectus' for Ideas and Inspiration

This prospectus has been kept very simple, but it really is very effective, they have used one image as the background and have incorporated the logo and text where it would stand out most. The high quality photo gives it an overall professional finish.

This prospectus has too, used just the one image, their layout is slightly different to the previous example, I believe this kind of layout is not as effective as the first one looks highly professional, however this one looks less so due to the blocks of purple. However, they have included the school logo and key words of which they have reduced the capacity so the image is the main focus.

This is the contents page of another prospectus, the bright images pull the reader in and keep it interesting to look at. The related props in the background help to create a sense of the kind of thing the child would be doing. Overall this contents page is very effective and also uses a scrapbook effect with the tape on the corners of the boxes that helps create a sense of child-friendliness.

This contents page has taken a slightly different approach but is still effective. They have used bright colours to intrigue the reader, but they have kept it to the theme of blues. This contents page has also used a range of different images of the children, this creates a personal feel and helps the reader to imagine what their child might be doing.

This is my analysis and research into other schools magazines/prospectus'. It has helped me a lot in creating an idea in which I would like to proceed with.

Thanks for reading,
Jess

School Magazine Task ~ Photos and their Reasons...

This image will not be featuring in my magazine, this is because I feel that the magazine doesn't send out a specific message, nor does it show anything in particular heppening, the photo was taken in the moment, without consideration of what is actually in it. The photo would be a lot better if it focuseds on a particular subject, e.g. some students or what they were doing.

This medium long shot will be featuring in my magazine, this is because Drama is specifically mentioned on the contents page, so to tie it all together, this will be included.

This long shot will be featuring in the magazine, it is going to coincide with the article title in the contents page about Open Evening. This is to show the fun that we are trying to portray was had at the event.

Out of the two images shown on the left here, I have chosen the top one, there are very minor differences, however the top one has slightly better lighting, which was taken into consideration when the picture was taken. Also, I feel as if the angle from this image is a lot more effective.

This image will be featuring in the magazine, it is a medium shot of a student in science, the student is smiling which is an obvious message of enjoyment. Science is also again, specifically mentioned on the contents page.

These images will feature in the magazine, they will feature as part of the 'sixth form advice' article which is mentioned on the contents page. The photo is a medium shot showing a sixth former doing their work.

This image will not be featuring in my magazine, as you can see, the sixth former in the photo, moved her hand causing there to be a blur at the bottom, this could easily be cropped however, this would obviously meant some of the table being cut out which I think will not look as good anyway.

This image will be featuring in the magazine, however I intend to crop it and change the contrast very slightly. This will either feature on the contents page or the front cover. Depending on it's relevance at the time.

 Thanks,
Jess

School Magazine Task ~ Draft

This is my school magazine front cover and contents page rough draft, I plan on using photoshop as the main feature in creating the two pages as well as learning a few new things to help me along the way.
Here's some screen shots of the mind map that helped me through the thought process of choosing the theme of the magazine:

It isn't made specifically clear in the draft itself, but I decided to use the theme that St.Marks is carrying out itself - black, gold and red.
This is because I felt it would look most professional.
(Next time I will include colour in the rough draft).
I also decided that the theme of St.Marks is the best choice because I generally found it easier to come up with ideas for that theme. Naturally, I would, therefore find it easier to create a whole two pages using this theme.

Thanks,
Jess.

Nature Magazine

During the task of creating my own nature magazine front cover, I took into consideration, different textures to use as well as interesting ways to catch the potential readers eye.

Here is an example of just one of the techniques i used to make the cover more interesting and different. Using a simple image, like a close up of grass, i used publisher which alowed me to add the texture to the background, and save it as an image. I then opened it up in photoshop and simply placed where I wanted it.
